Eudora stores its nicknames in a format which cannot be easily shared
with other applications. 'Eudora vCard Export' converts nicknames to
vCards which can then easily be imported into other programs (MacOS X
Address Book, Palm Desktop, ...) or moved to your iPod.
Eudora vCard Export is a simple drag'n'drop application which
provides easy one-step conversion of Eudoras nicknames to individual vCard
files.
The program has only been tested converting files from
Eudora 5.1 (OS X). Your mileage may vary for different
versions...
Known Limitations
Some programs only support a limited subset of the vCard
specification (e.g., the MacOS X Address Book does not support
multiple addresses for a contact) it may thus appear that
information has been lost.
The "Photo" pane of Eudora nicknames will be ignored.
Mailing lists (i.e., nicknames which will expand to multiple e-mail
addresses) will not be converted to vCard files.
Open the program directly from the Finder and set your preferred sort
order ("First Last" or "Last, First") and name format.
For a conversion of all your nicknames, drag your "Eudora
Folder" onto the program's icon in the Finder. You can also
convert individual files/folders by dropping them onto the
Converter (folders will be scanned recursively for files contained
in them).
All nicknames will be converted to *.vcf files which will be
stored inside a folder called "Contacts" located on your Desktop (if
a folder named "Contacts" already exists, a new folder
"Contacts-1", "Contacts-2", ... will be created).
Drag the *.vcf files to another program or the "Contacts" folder of
your iPod for import into these applications.
This little program is provided "as-is" and I don't take any
responsability for the integrity of your nickname files - as usual it
is a good idea to back up your nickname files before using the program.
The application is distributed free of charge - I wrote it for my own
personal use and decided to make it available for the Macintosh community.
I have a day job and I will still survive if nobody sends me money -
I am happy with hearing that I saved someone's day with my
little application. However, donations are not turned away;-)
I could always use some money to upgrade my G3 PowerBook so that
I'll be able to develop other (hopefully useful) products or to treat
myself to an iPod so I could use my own program...
'Eudora vCard Export' may not be redistributed via the web or any other
electronic media except with explicit written consent by the author.
System Requirements
The program is a Carbon application so it runs in MacOS X as well as
in older version of MacOS with CarbonLib (I only tested it in 9.2.2) -
a PPC processor is required.
